About Capital One Venture Rewards: Cover your base. Don’t make your life too complicated. be ready. I’m not sure where or how these classes got into my head, but they do exist.

So when I first started researching rewards credit cards, my focus was to find a credit card that did much more than just charges. I want to choose a card that would be beneficial for my particular situation, especially rewards and travel.

This puts the Capital One Venture Rewards credit card at the top of my list – I’ve had the card for over seven years. Below we take a look at some of the benefits of Capital One Venture and why I’m a fan of this card.

Fixed reward

I don’t like figuring out which spending categories generate the most credit card rewards. At Capital One Venture, I was drawn to the simplicity of earning unlimited 2X miles on all purchases. That’s why I use my Capital One Venture for most large purchases over $100, whether it’s to upgrade my phone, buy clothes, or do some Christmas shopping. If I count $1,500 a month, I know I’ll earn 3,000 Capital One Miles. This is a simple calculation.

When I book hotel rooms and rental cars with Capital One Travel, I also earn 5x miles for every dollar I spend. This is a huge incentive to take a vacation with this card. While paying a $1,000 hotel bill isn’t fun, at least I know that if I do, I’ll get 5,000 miles—$50 worth of travel.

It’s fun to see mileage accrue

I like being able to see exactly how many miles I’ve earned on each top up. To do this, I simply log into my account and navigate to the “Earn Activity” section. For example, my mom was in town recently and I took her out for a nice meal. That bill was $188.44 and got me 377 miles. Then, I bought two pairs of sunglasses for $145.39, which earned me 291 miles. It’s like checking the progress of a savings account.

With regular activities, miles can accrue quickly. Like almost everyone, I’ve been on my way home for most of 2020 and the first half of 2021. Because Capital One miles never expire, I had nearly 50,000 miles in my account at the time. This equates to about $500 in travel expenses.

Flexible flight options

Capital One Venture gives me the opportunity to use my miles freely. Since it’s a regular travel card, I can book flights through the airline partners that offer the best deals. For example, I recently used my Capital One Venture to travel to Thailand with Singapore Airlines, which is not common to me (like I would like).

Also, Capital One Venture pairs well with my Chase United℠ Explorer Card, which I use to buy everything from United. While United is great, sometimes the best fares are on airlines I’ve probably only flown on once or twice – that’s where Capital One Venture comes in.

Travel allowance

When I’m overseas, I usually use my Capital One Venture to pay for events, meals and shopping as it doesn’t charge overseas transaction fees. By comparison, many cards charge a 3% fee per foreign transaction, so a vacation I could spend $4,000 could add $120 to the foreign transaction fee.

The card also includes up to $100 in Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit, which offsets the $95 annual fee.

Consumer protection

My Capital One Venture card has a very high credit limit and it saved my teenage daughter’s life. I took her to the Dominican Republic a few years ago. During the trip, she suddenly became very ill. I rushed her to the local hospital, but I had to post $1,000 bail before they could admit her. The final bill was well over $5,000. Even with that much cash in my checking account, credit cards are better tools because they include consumer protections.

Additionally, this Capital One card comes with Eno, Capital One’s fraud monitoring program. It’s nerve-racking to ask so much in the Dominican Republic, but I know my account is protected, which allows me to focus on the important task of helping my daughter recover.
