Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, and miles earned through SkyMiles can be used to book award seats on flights operated by the following airlines: Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Czech Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, ITA Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
Unfortunately, since Delta Air Lines removed award charts from the web and introduced dynamic pricing, Delta’s premium cabin award rates have skyrocketed on its own flights. However, it is still possible to find a business class seat at a reasonable price with one of the aforementioned partner airlines.
Unless you’re spoiled for heaven’s booze and bed, one of the best ways to redeem your SkyMiles is during a flash sale. Destinations are announced monthly, and you can choose one of the discounted economy class travel to the regions listed.
Reward Potential
To determine the reward potential of the Delta SkyMiles Gold Business Card, we needed to look at the reward categories and calculate how much a sample U.S. household might spend in those areas. Forbes uses data from various government agencies to determine basic income and average spending in different categories. 70% of wage-earning households bring in $107,908 per year, and our payout is based on that number. For small business cards, we make estimates based on expenses for a sole proprietorship or freelancer.
Delta SkyMiles Gold Business Card Earn 2 per $1 on eligible purchases made directly from Delta, eligible U.S. select media ad spend, eligible U.S. mail order and in-restaurant purchases miles and 1 mile per dollar on other purchases.
Eragoncred estimates that the typical small business owner will spend $1,755 a year, totaling 3,510 SkyMiles. Dining adds an additional $4,406 or 8,812 Sky miles. Shipping and advertising are a bit vague, but we estimate the cost to be $1,200 per year, which equates to 2,400 SkyMiles. Other charges that can reasonably be charged to the credit card add an additional $19,049 to the annual fee, earning 19,049 SkyMiles annually in addition to the first-year welcome bonus, for a total of 33,771 SkyMiles.
More card benefits
- $100 Flight Credit: Earn $100 in Delta Flight Credit after every $10,000 in spend on the card from January to December. Spend an average of $833 a month on the card and earn $100.
- 20% statement credit on in-flight purchases: Purchase snacks, adult beverages or in-flight entertainment on your Delta flight, pay with the Delta SkyMiles® Gold Business American Express Card and get a 20% refund on your bill.
- Free Checked Baggage: Probably the most popular benefit of the card is free checked bags for the primary cardmember and up to eight additional travelers who book on the same Delta reservation.
- Priority Boarding: Board a Delta aircraft in Main Cabin Group 1 (after Delta One, First Class, Families with Strollers, Delta Comfort+ and Sky Priority members) and leave your carry-on luggage until full in the overhead luggage rack.
- Pay with Miles: This program allows you to redeem any Delta flight with SkyMiles on Delta.com for 1 cent per mile. When fares are cheap, it can be a great way to get a flight without paying cash, and redeeming less SkyMiles than the standard rewards you’d normally need, but it’s not the best way to use miles way of value.
