It can sometimes be hard to find motivation to exercise, but what if your credit card gives you extra money to get you off the couch? That’s exactly what you get with the Paceline Card, which connects to the Paceline Fitness Rewards app to track your physical activity. Raise your heart rate by at least 150 minutes a week and the card will double your cash back.

Joel Lieginger, founder and CEO of Paceline, said: “Paceline was born from the idea that your health is your most valuable asset and that your efforts should be rewarded.”

How Paceline Maps Work

Issued by Evolve Bank & Trust, the Paceline Card offers 2.5% cash back on eligible health and wellness purchases and 1.5% cash back on other purchases. Double your cash back to 5% or 3% when you hit your rhythm line “continuous” (defined as adding at least 150 minutes of heart rate per week).

The 5% cap applies to purchases in these categories, which Paceline says are associated with more than 500 health-focused lifestyle brands:

  • Sportswear. Shop from brands like Nike, Adidas, Lululemon, Vuori, Athleta and Reebok.
  • Gym, studio and classes. Work out your stride streak at Planet Fitness, Orangetheory Fitness, CorePower Yoga or your local Pilates studio.
  • Sporting Goods and Equipment. Shop everywhere from Dick’s Sporting Goods and Big 5 Sporting Goods to your local bike shop.
  • Fitness Equipment. Save extra for your home gym from Peloton Bike or Tread, Tonal, Mirror, iFit and Echelon.
  • Fitness Equipment. Save extra for your home gym from Peloton Bike or Tread, Tonal, Mirror, iFit and Echelon.
food. Fuel up at Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s.
  • Pharmacies and pharmacies. Get essentials from CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and more.

“We’re expanding the health and wellness category so more brands can qualify for more cash back,” Lieginger said.

Requirements for using the Paceline card

If you want to apply for a Paceline card, you will need to download the Paceline app if you do not have it. Use the app to apply and get an approval decision within five minutes, Paceline said.

The Paceline app connects to wearables like Fitbit, Garmin, or Apple Watch to track your physical activity to reach your 150-minute weekly goal.

If you don’t have a wearable or need an upgrade, get a special discount on Apple Watch with your Paceline Card. By hitting your weekly activity goal and keeping your account healthy, you can earn up to $429 in billing credits over a year to pay for your watch.

Once you select your Apple Watch model or other wearable in the Paceline app, you can use your card and start earning rewards.

How to Get Honors for Your Sports Activity

The physical activity you log over the course of a week accumulates into so-called speed minutes. The company says one minute is the time you can perform an activity at least as strenuous as brisk walking. Your wearable keeps track of how long your heart rate stays elevated.

Note that the accumulated speed minutes may not equal the total time spent in the gym or on the trails. Instead, pacing minutes are based solely on elevated heart rate.

This means that if you stretch or take breaks to drink water and your heart rate drops, those times won’t count towards your weekly goal. You can get up to 50 minutes of Paceline time per day, with a goal of at least 150 minutes per week.

Overall, Paceline is structured to improve cardholder health and financial well-being, Lieginger said.

“Just as travel rewards shaped the last era of credit card rewards, we believe health and wellness is the new frontier,” he said.

How to Collect Paceline Map Rewards
As you approach your weekly activity goal, your cash back rewards will accumulate quickly.

Using the Paceline app, you can track your progress and see “the real-time value of the work you put into your physical activity,” says Lieginger.

“You’ll see a cashback amount that reflects your purchases that day,” he added. “If you hit your streak that week, you’ll see all those cashbacks double.”

According to Lieginger, additional cash back at grocery stores is also a general motivator for cardholders to achieve their athletic goals.

“We’ve seen that the food category in particular is taking off,” he said. “Getting 5% unlimited cash back at grocery stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s when you hit your training score is huge.”

Purchases that may not qualify for Health and Wellness Rewards include purchases made through:

  • Third-party payment accounts.
  • Mobile or wireless card reader.
  • Mobile or digital wallet or similar technology.

Paceline Maps and Your Privacy

Some may have privacy concerns about the Paceline card, as the rewards system relies on the collection of users’ personal information.

According to Paceline, your personally identifiable information will never be sold, rented or rented. However, Paceline will collect physical activity information from your wearable device provider with your consent.

If your equipment provider has this information, the company may also collect your date of birth, height, gender and weight. Your device may allow you to customize or opt out of sharing all or some of your activity information; see your device settings for details.

Should you sign up for a Paceline card?

The Paceline Card may be a good option for physically active individuals who want to be rewarded for their healthy habits.

Catherine Valega, a Massachusetts-based certified financial planner and founder of Green Bee Advisory, said that as someone who struggles to stay active and healthy, she can see the appeal of the card.

“I’m working out anyway, so why not use my fitness level to unlock extra points and rewards?” Valega asked.

These types of incentives exist in the life insurance industry, she noted. “There are products that correlate with your fitness level and give you lower rewards if you stay fit,” says Valega.

Charles Sachs, a board-certified financial planner and chief investment officer at Kaufman Rossin Wealth in Miami, said he has privacy concerns because Paceline collects workout information. He also noted that the card has an annual fee of $60.

“There are a lot of great no-annual-fee cards out there, with a lot of benefits. A lot of people don’t realize how much they have to spend on a card to exceed the annual fee, if any,” Sachs said. One. ”

He added: “I would buy a card with no annual fee for 2% any day.”
