Find your account number on a check
Your account number is at the bottom of your check. It is the second set of numbers between the nine-digit sorting code and the check digit.
What is the account number on the check?
The account number listed on the check is the unique bank account used to identify the source of funds. Without the correct account number, there may be delays in paying paychecks or charges for missing bills because the check won’t go through.
If you have multiple checking accounts (for example, a personal account and a business account), each account has its own account number. While the classification code is specific to your bank or credit union, the account number is specific to you. Account numbers vary in length, but are usually up to 12 digits long.
Other ways to find your account
Find your account number on a paper statement
If you have a paper statement or electronic (PDF) version, your account number should be listed above. Look for “account number” followed by a series of numbers.
Find your account number in Internet Banking
Log in to your bank account through the bank’s online portal. Account numbers may appear in the Account Information or Account Summary sections, but some banks and credit unions may confuse some of them. If this is the case, there may be a prompt “show” or “show” to show all numbers.
Call your bank and ask for your account number
Your bank’s customer service representative can provide you with your account number. Representatives may ask some security questions to verify your identity before providing information.
What is the routing number on the check?
While the bank account number identifies the unique account you use to deposit checks, the sorting code identifies the bank itself. Classification codes are required for many types of financial transactions, including check processing and wire transfers.
Like the account number, the sorting code is located at the bottom of the check. It is the first set of numbers on the left, nine digits.
Konkluzja
Essentially, your account number is a unique identifier for your bank account. This is important because it tells the bank or credit union exactly which account to draw the money from and where it belongs. An account number is required to sign up for direct deposit and set up electronic payments.
