You can activate your new credit card through CIBC Online or Mobile Banking. Simply select Activate Card from the Credit section of My Accounts in CIBC Online Banking, or from the main navigation menu in CIBC Mobile Banking, and follow the steps to activate.
For your safety, the map will not be active until you activate it. This is to prevent unauthorized use before the card reaches you.
How do I activate my new CIBC credit card?
You can activate any CIBC credit card via Internet Banking or Mobile Banking. Each account cardholder must activate their own card.
After successfully completing the activation steps, your card will be activated and ready to use immediately. If your credit card information changes, remember to sign the back of your new card and update any merchants that have your card on file for pre-authorized payments
After activating the new card, don’t forget to destroy the old card to protect your account
Your card number and expiration date will not change, so pre-authorized payments will not be interrupted
However, if your card expires within 9 months of applying for mediation, your new card will have the same number but a new expiration date. In this case, you will need to update your pre-authorized payment with the new due date. This is for the primary cardholder only.
How do I pay with Google Pay?
Google Pay works with any contactless payment terminal where you can pay with an eligible CIBC credit, prepaid or debit card.
In-store payment:
Press any key to wake up your device.
Tap your device on a contactless terminal to pay with your standard card.
For security reasons, you may need to unlock your device.
Pay in app or online:
When paying, select “Pay with Google Pay”.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the transaction.
You may be required to provide your Google Account password or biometric identifier to link the app to Google Pay.
How do I make a credit card payment?
You can pay your credit card in a number of ways.
To set up a pre-authorized payment on your credit card account, you can call the CIBC Credit Card Service at 1-800-465-4653. If calling from outside North America, use 514-861-4653. Accept the group call. We are available Monday-Friday 7:00AM-12:00PM ET and Saturday-Sunday 7:00AM-10:00PM ET.
You can also log in to CIBC Online Banking® and transfer funds from your CIBC deposit account to your CIBC credit card. Your CIBC credit card must be linked to your debit card in order to transfer money. To verify that your credit card is currently linked to your debit card, look for the “Link Account” option next to your credit card on the “My Account” page.
Another way is to register your credit card as a payee through your CIBC bank account when you log in to CIBC Internet Banking:
Select “Pay Bill” in the navigation.
Select Add or Edit Payee.
Enter the payee’s name in the text box and select Search.
Select the payee name from the search results.
Enter your credit card number in the Payee account number field and select Next.
Review the payee information and select Add Payee.
You will be prompted to select “Add Payee” again to confirm the payee you want to add. You will also be asked to enter a one-time verification code. After completing this step, you will receive confirmation that the request has been sent. You can have up to 99 recipients at the same time.
You can also call Phone Banking at 1-800-465-2422 to register your CIBC credit card as a payee.
Once your credit card statement has been added to your account, you can choose to pay your bills when you log into your account via CIBC Internet Banking, CIBC Mobile Banking®, Phone Banking or CIBC ATMs. You can choose to pay your bills with dates in the future.
