Remember, American Express has very strict welcome bonus rules. If you have previously earned the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Welcome Bonus, you will not be eligible for any further benefits on that particular card.

Delta’s loyalty program isn’t the most user-friendly when it comes to redeeming miles. SkyMiles no longer publishes award tables on its website. Dynamic pricing models make it difficult to find great value in plans by increasing redemption rates with demand.
One of the best ways to redeem your SkyMiles is through your SkyMiles benefits. You’ll find that some destinations have lower-than-usual exchange rates during these promotions. In the past, we’ve seen sales to Australia, the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii.
Delta is a member of SkyTeam, so you can redeem SkyMiles for award seats on itineraries operated by other SkyTeam members, including Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air France Company, Alitalia, China Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, KLM, Korean Air, Vietnam Airlines, etc.
Other less valuable ways to use SkyMiles include paying with miles and enrolling in Delta Sky Club membership. This is not recommended as the value per mile is reduced to just 1 cent, which is less than what you can get when you redeem your flight.

Forbes Advisor uses data from various government agencies to determine basic income and average spending for each category. 70% of working people bring in $100,172 a year, and our payout is based on that number.
According to Eragoncred’s calculations, a typical family spends $10,093 on restaurants and groceries, the equivalent of 20,186 SkyMiles. Spending $1,755 on airline tickets will equate to 5,265 SkyMiles, while spending $14,562 on other purchases that can reasonably be charged to your credit card will earn you 14,562 SkyMiles. This means that the card will earn a total of 40,373 points per year in addition to the welcome bonus earned in the first year.
In addition to earning SkyMiles, cardholders can also benefit from an annual Delta Air Lines Companion Certificate when they renew their card each year. This assumes that the certificate is actually being used, because if it’s not being used, it has no value.

The Platinum Edition of the Delta SkyMiles Card isn’t as “premium” as the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, but it’s definitely an improvement over other products in its class.
The Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card is for those who prefer to visit Sky Lounges on multiple Delta Air Lines trips. The card provides Delta Sky Club access to passengers looking for a more convenient airport experience (compared to a membership value of $545 per year).
With an annual fee of $550 (terms apply. See rates and fees), the Delta SkyMiles Reservation Card isn’t cheap, but it’s related to what you’d only pay for a similar SkyMiles membership. The credit card also gives you additional benefits, including checked luggage and proof of companionship, and you renew your card every year on eligible flights (if you pay taxes and royalties).
Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card and American Express® Gold Card
Delta customers can book award tickets without using a co-branded Delta card. American Express Gold Card is also available. For a $250 annual fee (terms apply. See pricing and fees), you can earn Membership Rewards points that transfer directly to about two dozen programs, including Delta SkyMiles and Air France-KLM Flying Blue. That way, you can still use miles to book Delta flights unless you have more options.
Points earned with American Express Gold can be used to book flights on all participating airlines through American Express Travel for 1 cent per point, except for transit partners.
Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card and Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®
If Delta is not the best airline at your home airport, consider other airline charts such as B. Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®. This card waives the first checked bag fee on domestic flights (up to five passengers on the same booking) and has no international transaction fees. After spending $20,000 in a year on the Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select Card and renewing for another year, you’ll get a $125 discount on your airfare with American Airlines – enough to justify carrying the card with you if you spend a lot.
No push for elite status, but the $99 annual fee reduction for the first 12 months is less than the Delta SkyMiles Platinum.

The Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card offers some useful benefits for regular Delta flights. If you take advantage of the companion ticket, you can break even with the card’s annual fee. However, if you want more income flexibility, or want more elite benefits, consider a different card.
